This book is written in comic book format which can drive you crazy but seems to be comforting to new coaches. It is the fourth of a four book series on FUNdamental soccer. It is probably the best series I know for a brand new "volunteer" to use to get started. This book is a little different than the others in this series in that it is addressed to the parents of young soccer players. It assumes they know nothing about the game and tries to teach the basics. I found it useful for preparing information for my first meeting with parents at the beginning of a new team. You might wish that all parents had to read this book in order to sign their kid up, but it ain't gonna happen. So, you read the book and pass the information on at parents meetings and in newsletters. You might carry the book with you to games to lend to some of the more "helpful" parents.

If you want to learn about soccer FAST this is the book for you.
The title is very appropriate. This book is for clueless parents. The book briefly goes over the FUNdamentals of soccer in every aspect you could possibly need as a parent. Koach Karl reviews equipment for soccer and how to select it. Actually, he agrees with me – or maybe I agree with him. Maybe that’s why I love his stuff.
He explains the basic skills needed for attackers and for defenders. This section alone is worth the price of the book. With each skill is a diagram showing proper and improper technique, as well as an explanation. He also shows the proper technique for passing and shooting.
As a parent new to soccer, this book is the perfect introduction to the sport and a great primer on helping your child acquire the basic skills needed to be successful in the sport. As a “volunteer” coach this book is a MUST to learn about the basic soccer skills so you can begin teaching them to your team.
I regret to say that many kids suffered from my ignorance when I first started coaching. Please, don’t make my mistake!
